Essay??

In the movie Metamorphosis Franz Kafka represents death as a relief for the Samsa family because they didn’t really react to Gregors death. The scene starts with Grete playing the violin then Gregor walks into the room very slowly because he has an apple rotting in his back and he also has a broken leg so the way he walks is very limited. Gregors feels very unsupported and unwanted because his family refer to him as ‘it’ and they speak about him when he’s in the room thinking that he can’t understand him. Gregors sister says we must get rid of ‘it’.

Gregors death is represented as painful in the movie because in the movie Gregor clearly has a broken leg and an apple rotting in his back and his skin colour changed since the beginning of the movie. For example at the beginning of the movie Gregor is a brownish colour then at the end of the movie he is blackish/grey.

Gregors father wasn’t really helpful and understanding because when Gregor needed him the most he wasn’t there for him. In the movie when Gregor turns into a beetle Gregors dad abuses Gregor and forces Gregor to stay in his room. I believe Gregors father feels ashamed and embarrassed that his son is a beetle and he doesn’t want anyone to see his son because people will look at Mr Samsa as a bad parent and a failure. Gregor must feel like an outcast in his family because because nobody in the family speaks to Gregor.

Gregor gets dehumanized by his family because they refer to him as ‘it’ they no longer refer to him as Gregor I believe that is a big part of the story because that can make Gregor feel like hes worthless and like nobody cares about him.

Gregor also finds it hard to move about as a beetle no matter how hard he threw himself onto his right side, he always rolled onto his back again. He must have tried it a hundred times, closing his eyes so that he would not have to see the wriggling legs, and gave up only when he began to feel a light, dull pain in his side which he had never felt before.

Gregor must feel like second best and me must feel like Grete is loved more because they glory in the sight of their healthy child, Greta, who is still beautiful, young, and strong and will hopefully make an excellent marriage prospect for some young man. Gregors mother is stuck in the middle because her husband and daughter and they’re saying that they must get rid of Gregor but its not really Gregors father its Grete pressuring the other members of the family into getting rid of gregor this could be because grete might want to get all the attention.

The Metamorphosis opens as Gregor Samsa, a traveling salesman, awakes to find himself transformed into a “monstrous vermin.” Initially shocked by the change, Gregor soon begins to worry that he will miss his train and be late for work. He also laments the boredom of his job, employment to which he had resigned himself for as long as necessary to pay off his parents’ debts. From outside the room, Gregor’s worried mother calls to him. Gregor, unfamiliar with his new body, struggles to get out of bed. Later, the chief clerk of his office appears outside the locked door to Gregor’s room, inquiring why his employee has missed the early train. Speaking through the door, Gregor claims that he is slightly ill but will soon be on his way. Meanwhile, Gregor’s concerned mother asks her daughter Grete to call for a doctor and a locksmith. Finally Gregor manages to open his door. His appearance startles the chief clerk, and although Gregor tries to reason with him, claiming he will get dressed and be on his way to work, the clerk retreats from the giant insect, as does Gregor’s frightened mother. Gregor’s father then appears and drives Gregor back into his room.

regor’s family life was nothing out of the ordinary but also was not the best of times. His Father did not work cause he got himself into financial problems. “Gregor works as a traveling salesman- a situation he dislikes. He wants to quit his job, but the pressure to support his family and pay off his bankrupt father’s business debts keeps him trapped in his career” (instructors manual). He is the only one in his family who works, because his Mother has bad asthma, and his sister is to young, which leaves his income as the only in the house. Gregor had a close relationship with his sister Grete, but with his parents it was different. He was on the road most of the time so he only stopped by to stay the night, while he was in the neighborhood. Gregors self esteem was not on the high side. He regretted the fact that he had to work this horrible job just because of his father; he was not married and did not even have a girlfriend. His life kind of seemed like it was standing still until this morning when it happened to take a turn, which was unexpected by Gregor and also to everyone else.
As Gregor goes through his metamorphosis his takes a toll on his mental and physically feelings about himself, his family, and also his work. His family finds him in his new body and they get almost scared by it. He is confined to his room, he does not get to walk around the house, or see anything outside unless he looks out the one window that is in his room. His Mother and Father both do not come.

The movie ends with Gregor in a terrible state he’s laying dead in his room and nobody really reacts but Grete looks guilty because she just fell out with Gregor.

Analysing Revenge

In this extract at the beginning it says ‘Give us the proudest prisoner of the goths, that we may hew his limbs.’ I think this means that they want to be given the strongest and most respected goth and cut off his limbs. Then Titus Andronicus says ‘I give him you, the noblest that survives, the eldest son of this distressed queen.’ This tells us that Titus Andronicus is going to give Lucius the queens son then he is going to remove his limbs.
